Last weekend, Lanzarote consolidated its position as the epicentre of Canarian fashion by holding the Lanzarote Fashion Weekend 2024 at the Hotel Paradisus Meliá Salinas in Costa Teguise. The event brought together 16 designer firms from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma, who presented their latest collections under the label ‘Canarias Islas de Moda’.

The catwalk featured the participation of local artisans such as Angie Vázquez, Nacho Nanni, Ángel Cabrera, Rosa Delgado, Macaronesia Swim, Oswaldo Machín, Noemí Scarte, Almagre, Famara Spirit, Nanny Jewelry, Migongo, Azuvilas and Siliza. In addition, designers from other islands joined in, including Elena Morales from Gran Canaria, Diazar from Tenerife and Ban Artesanía en Cuero from La Palma.

The event also included ‘Fashion Talks’, talks given by industry professionals to promote digital innovation, international competitiveness and sustainability. Of particular note were the talks by designer Roberto Diz and the president of WOW Concept, Dimas Gimeno, who addressed sustainable fashion as a creative and responsible opportunity for the future.

The Canary Islands Government, through Proexca, reinforced its support for the main catwalks on the islands, including Lanzarote Fashion Weekend, Tenerife Fashion Fair, Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida and Fuerteventura Fashion Week. The La Palma Fashion Week will soon be inaugurated, thus consolidating the commitment to the textile sector and the promotion of Canarian fashion.

Aroa Revelo, Councillor for Crafts of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, stressed that this event represents a commitment to fashion that respects traditions and the environment, boosting the island's economic development. For her part, Paula Hernández, Proexca's External Promotion technician, pointed out that the creation of the ‘Canarias Islas de Moda’ brand strengthens the industry and its commercialisation, improves the region's positioning and promotes innovation and local talent.
